What's an Aussie?

As we look at Australian values and identity this term, take some time to think about what a typical Australian is like.

Does this picture represent a typical Australian?
What do people from other countries think we are like?
What other stereotypes are given to Australians?
How can we change what the world thinks of us?

A. i think the picture does represent australians but i think some people get the wrong idear.

B. people from other countries would explane a true aussie an a person that has a cork hat, plays cricket, wears singlets and thongs but we are not aussies are cool.

C.some people think most aussies like vegemite but i am not a fan.

D. i think australians should make up a catchy song or a line that be could be remembered from, not steriotypes.

people get the wrong picture we are not all that but much more.

I belive that the reason some forieners think that this is what a typical australian looks like is beacause of Australia Day.Australia Day is just about the only day that we dress like this, Australia Day is broadcased on the news at other countrys, therefore making some people think that ths is what all Australians wear. This is why some Ausralians may see a Mexican to have a big hat and maracias in thier hands.

I think people definately get the wrong idea of a Aussie. Just because people watch kiddy cartoons that have sausages, a cork hat and tank top, doesn't mean that we all do. I agree with Hannah that all of us are different in a special way and with Neeve about Vegemite. I won't eat the stuff if my life depends on it -wait, maybe if my life deepens on it but never again. But Neeve is right with all her points A, B, C and D and Finbar is right. Just because we watch Kungfu Panda doesnt mean all Chinese people wear straw hats and wheel around noodle carts eating dumplings. Other countries may stereotype us but that doesn't mean we have to stereotype them.

1.I think Australians are not all like this picture.
2.People in other nations might think of us looking like the man in the picture, but we are not really like this.
3.Some people think of us as eating vegemite, tim tams and wearing thongs.
4.Many countries have nations that sterotype their country like mexico with tacos.

This isn't a typical Australian at all and I think it's important that people know that so they get who Australians really are. Saying that it's also important to work out what people from other countries are like so we dont have stereo types of them.

1.I beleive that the picture is partly true. In general most Australians like a BBQ andwe have to wear sunsceen and a hat because it is so hot here. But we dont dress like this all the time or at all. As finbar said it is more a dress code on australia day.

2. When i lived in america, there were people that thought we all had kangaroos as pets which is ridicuiours.

3.Other counties may think we all talk like steve Irwin, dont do anything but play cricket, have BBQs and say g'day mate.

4. We could change what the world thinks of us by educating the world better. Through media and advertiements. We could recgonise australian achievement more and acknowledge our multi-cultureism.
